Jordyn's Rocky Journey By Jordyn

Meet Jordyn at Jordyn's Rocky Journey!...

I am a 14 year old boy (as of 2017) with autism and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.

I choose to be an open book, sharing my life, thoughts, and perspective, in hopes that it makes a difference.

I am creating the content of this site by pointing to one letter at a time. I don’t speak or type my thoughts independently yet. A Communication Partner is helping by being my beautiful scribe and wonderful regulation champion. Her name is Mom! Once I can type independently, I won’t need her, but until then I am so very thankful that she empowers my self-expression by constantly giving of herself while staying in the background. No words are hers, trust me!

My mission is to bring more peace, acceptance and love to the planet. I start with my peers and those that support them. Soon I will move on to the education and medical communities, bringing compassion and a true understanding of what life is like for non, minimal, and unreliable speakers.

Who Rocky Is

Jordyn's Blog: Who Rocky Is

My uncontrollable body’s name is Rocky. I only named it so I would be able to tell it what to do. Only when I’m able to distinguish my stonr* impulsive side from ME, can I stop it from running the show.

Every day I get more purposeful, intentional, and in control. You would not try to understand unless you answered to impulsivity. So many times uncontrollable impulses hijack my wishes.

Now that I can communicate my wishes my team of absolutely lovely angels can stop my body. I am grateful for them and Rapid Prompting Method letting me be ME.

With love and faith,

Jordyn
* stonr – this is not misspelled but a term Jordyn has adopted when his body is impulsive after I (his mom) called the corner of his letter board where he’d get stuck that had these letters the “stonr corner”

So I am a documentary film star

Jordyn's Blog: So I Am A Documentary Film Star

Last night I was at The Spiral Movement Center where the first Bodymind Film Festival took place. A documentary starring me was screened. “Jordyn’s Rocky Journey” is a nice film that captures me beautifully.

Boarding it were a film on a boy named Aidan who has cerebral palsy and one that shares Andrew’s and Michelle’s bodymind experiences. My calm body was able to be during Aidan’s and my films and round table questions, but I could no longer control it when my piece was over. I had to burn off steam in the hallway and stairwell.

Andrew’s film I will watch at home.

All were so absolutely awe inspiring.

My film really creates a beautiful picture of both my daily battles with my uncontrollable body (Rocky) and my inner self (Jordyn). Stephanie and Yuji kept both distinct and that helps others to see the disconnect between me and my body.

Although I am gaining more control each day, this film is important for people like me to gain understanding from teachers, therapists and family so that they too can begin to bring their mind and body together.

I request that you share this film (“Jordyn’s Rocky Journey”) far and wide so it can lead people to all the support I offer.

Yours,

Jordyn

What Natural Play Therapy (NPT) means to me

Jordyn's Blog: What Natural Play Therapy Means To Me

To understand what NPT means you must allow me to explain what life was like before we went natural. I played with facilitators all day long with them copying my impulsive stims. They did this to show me they accepted me and to understand how best to help me when I wasn’t being impulsive and was engaged with them. This was all done with the intention of love. Because faked automatic good feelings lack authenticity, I always felt the underlying bad emotions of my playmates. I always wanted people to be real.

Now with NPT I get real people and learn new activities. Sometimes I just watch and learn without needing to try out the activity. Other times I try in my own way excitedly. And other times I learn to do activity exactly as it is supposed to be done. Even more fun is to start an activity and to build on each others ideas. These are the natural ways we interact in all relationships.

I love that I have natural interaction with people and they get to learn with me as friends.

Both the Son-Rise Program and NPT teach parents to love more deeply. However, Son-Rise supports bad impulsive delivery of love while NPT creates opportunity to build purposefulness into the day while leaving space for respect of impulses.

I am thankful for NPT and for intentional love of Julie Sando and Jake Pourchot and their team of Child Coaches for opening my world.

Playfully,

Jordyn

My Team of Really Wonderful Supports

NPT Collage.jpgNatural Play TherapyAutistically Inclined

I love the always dearly angelic Julie Sando. She has taken everything she has learned from years of being trained to work with autistics and let “the rules” go trusting her gut. The result is a space where each individual is respected and each family gets to create a program that fits them. Families need to be more natural and therapy can be fun and easy. Just be adventurous and give Julie a call, you won’t be pressured because that just isn’t in Julie’s DNA.

We will throw out some questions for you to answer... Pick a question that resonates most or sparks the answer that calls out to you. Or answer a different question that feels more relevant. Just share something. One you start flowing, more will come.

What stood out to you from Jordyn's message? What did you relate to in his documentary? What surprised you the most? What resonated?
