A Suggested Outline For Communication Partners (2:03 audio)

Communication Partners:

Follow these steps and let us know if you have any questions along the way! This is an overview of the steps ahead.

Step 1:

As a communication partner you will want to watch the "how to" video and practice the trick a few times to get comfortable with it on your own first. Once you feel like you have a handle on the trick, you can move to step two. This should take about 20 minutes in total.

Step 2:

Once I (as the communication partner) learned the trick on my own, I demonstrated it to Elliot and his dad. Then I started the lesson so that Elliot could learn how to do the trick himself! We have a video to show you how we did it!

If it is useful, you can review the video in step one with your student and jump straight into the lesson instead.

Step 3:

Tips For Communication Partners: Brain-Body Disconnect

Your student may look like they don't want to participate. Learn how to navigate some tricky situations before jumping into the lesson with your student.

Step 4:

Download and print the lesson.

This lesson includes lots of opportunities for purposeful movements. If it helps, you can review the lesson ahead of time and use a highlighter to highlight the movements that might be ideal for your student. Not all movements will be applicable for your student.

We also included a ton of questions in our lesson. You can pick and choose which questions are best in the moment.

Step 5:

It's time to do the lesson and to help your student perform this trick! Let us know how your card trick went or if you are stuck with any step of the way!  We are here to help, to adapt, and to cheer you on! Engage with other students by replying to their comments too!
